Barry Corbin is a veteran American television and film actor. He was the eldest of the three sons of Alma LaMerle Scott and Kilmer Blain Corbin. His father was an attorney and later a State Senate Member for two years while his mother was an elementary school teacher. He attended the Monterey High School and moved on to graduate from the Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Later he joined the Marine Corps and served there for nearly two years before leaving in August 1963. He married twice and his first wife was named Elyse Soap whom he married in 1966 and divorced in 1970. Six years later he married Susan Berger in May 1976 and later divorced her in June 1993. He has three children from his two marriages named Bernard, Jim and Chris. He also has a daughter named Shannon from a woman he had an affair with but who gave the child up for adoption without informing Corbin about pregnancy. He had no knowledge about her till he found her in 1991.

Barry started his acting career as a theatre artist while he was still in college where he appeared in plays like The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Imaginary Invalid, A View from the Bridge and Ondine etc. He later moved on to work for the silver screen where he appeared in over a hundred television shows, movies and video games. On television he has been seen in shows like M*A*S*H, Flight 90: Disaster on the Potomac, Dallas, Matlock, Disneyland, Virus, The Big Easy, The Drew Carey Show, One Tree Hill, The Closer and The Unit etc., besides playing the role of Maurice Minnifield on Northern Exposure. In addition he has also worked movies like Dead & Buried, What Comes Around, It Takes Two, Ghost Dad, Under Cover, Solo, Timequest, The Journeyman, Dunsmore, Godless, Beautiful Dreamer, Trail End and Lake City etc. In addition he has produced and acted the movie A Death in the Woods. Barry has also been nominated for the Primetime Emmy Awards thrice and has won the Bronze Wrangler Award of Television Feature Film for Conagher in 1992.

In Northern Exposure, he plays the role of Maurice Minnifield. He is a former astronaut and the founding father of Cicely. He is business man who owns the local radio station as well as nearly fifteen thousand acres of the town’s land. He has the ambition of making his hometown into booming city. It is a result of his efforts that Joel is bought to the town which did not have any qualified medic prior to him.
