John Corbett is an American actor and country singer who was born to John Joseph Corbett, Sr. He lived with his mother in an apartment block near the Ohio River. He attended the Wheeling Central Catholic High School. He is a vegetarian and loves to play the guitar and the piano. He has the license of being a hairstylist. On arriving in California he worked for six years as a steel laborer but was forced to leave the job after he suffered a back injury. He then went on to study drama at a local Los Angeles college. He later appeared in many television commercials before he actually started acting. He has never married but currently he lives with his girlfriend Bo Derek in Seattle.

Corbett’s acting career started with a guest role in the series The Wonder Years. His performance in the show impressed the creators of Northern Exposure so much that they chose him to play the role of Chris Stevens in the said series. From then on there was no looking back for Corbett who has appeared in nearly two dozen television shows and nineteen movies till date. On television he has acted in shows like Innocent Victims, The Visitor, Love Chronicles, Private Lies, Sex and the City, Lucky, Hunt for Justice, Montana Sky and The United States of Tara etc, In addition he has also worked in movies like Tombstone, Volcano, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Raising Helen, Dreamland, The Messengers, Street Kings and Baby on Board etc. On the music front, Corbett released his first full-length, self-titled country music album in April 2006. Corbett has been nominated for seven different awards which include two Golden Globe nominations and one Emmy Award nomination.

Role in Northern Exposure

In Northern Exposure, he plays the role of Chris Stevens. He is the disc jockey at the local radio station and spreads the philosophical ideas of great writers like Shakespeare, Tolstoy and Carl Jung etc through his morning show. He is also a former convict who has become the only clergyman available in Cicely.
