Show Summary

Northern Exposure Tv show was a dramedy series which premiered on the CBS Network on 12th July 1990. The series was created by Joshua Brand and John Falsey of the Brand-Falsey Productions. The series revolved around the concept of people from diverse backgrounds and experiences trying to accept their dissimilarities for peaceful co-existence. It traced the life of a Joel Fleishman, who has just graduated from medical college where he could study thanks to a scholarship from the state of Alaska. Now he has to payback by accepting the post of the General Practitioner in the remote and tiny Alaskan town of Cicely. On his arrival in the town he finds himself being welcomed with open arms by the town’s people who are somewhat unusual in their ways of life. In the town lives Ed who is a film buff, Cicely’s founding father Maurice who was previously an astronaut, Chris who is a prejudiced DJ, and Maggie, a spunky pilot.

Although initially Joel is keen about returning to New York, however with the passage of time, he accepts the snowy eccentric town as his home. As he gets involved with the daily lives and rituals the simple and trusting towns people, Joel comes to realize that Cicely is probably more civilized than Manhattan in many ways. It also seems that he enjoys the company of Maggie more than he admits in whom he finds a hidden soul mate. The series gained the approval of the critics who reportedly claimed it to be the best TV show aired since 1985. It was runaway hit with the audiences and won twenty seven popular awards which included two Golden Globe Awards and two Emmy Awards. In addition it was nominated for fifty seven other awards including the prestigious Grammy Award. The series ended in July 1995 after being aired for six seasons and having showcased around one hundred and ten episodes.
